Despite its economic value, this target species is still unexploited and there have been no studies focusing on its current status. This study is the first attempt to investigate the stock assessment, spatial distribution, and sexuality of D. trunculus. The obtained results revealed that densities ranged from 0 to 278 ind. m-², and biomass varied between 0 and 444 g m-². The amount of the latter was equal to 130.1 tons, with high abundance levels reaching over 129.5 million individuals in an area of 4935 hectares. The shell length within the population varied substantially from one locality to another, ranging from 4.8 to 32.7 mm. The overall sex ratio (F:M) was 1:1.52.
