NO -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- Description of the methods used to collect/obtain the data: a) The NFI concentric permanent sample plot consists of four circular permanent subplots, each with a different radius and area (3,09 m with area 30 m2, 7,98 m with area 200 m2, 13,82 m with area 600 m2 and 25,23 m with area 2000 m2). On each of them, different variables or indicators are measured or assessed, as presented in the NFI manual (Skudnik et al., 2022) Data processing methods: Statistical analyses were computed with the R software (R Core Team, 2023). Software information: R software version 4.4.1 (R Core Team, 2025) Standards and calibration data: "• ISO 11465:1993 Soil quality — determination of dry matter and water content on a mass basis — gravimetric method. • ISO 10693:1995 Soil quality — determination of carbonate content — volumetric method. • ISO 10694:1995 Soil quality — determination of organic and total carbon after dry combustion (elementary analysis). • ISO 13878:1998 Soil quality — determination of total nitrogen content by dry combustion (“elemental analysis”). • ISO 10390:2005 Soil quality — determination of pH. • ISO 11464:2006: Soil quality — Pre-treatment of samples for physico-chemical analysis. • ISO 11277:2009 Soil quality — determination of particle size distribution in mineral soil material — method by sieving and sedimentation." ------------------------------------- DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION: ------------------------------------- List of variables: a) National Forest Inventory–based indicator dataset for ravine forests PLOT ID Cover of upper Cover of middle Cover of lower Canopy closure Stoniness Relief Rockiness Altitude (m) Slope (°) Aspect Heat load index Growing stock (m3/ha) Growing stock - Acer pseudoplatanus (m3/ha) Growing stock -Tilia spp. (m3/ha) Growing stock - Fraxinus excelsior (m3/ha) Growing stock - Acer platanoides (m3/ha) Growing stock - Ulmus glabra (m3/ha) Growing stock - Fagus sylvatica (m3/ha) Growing stock - Abies alba (m3/ha) Growing stock - Picea abies (m3/ha) Growing stock - Quercus petraea (m3/ha) Basal area (m2/ha) Number of trees (N/ha) Number of large living trees (N/ha) Number of trees in social position 1 (N/ha) Number of trees in social position 2 (N/ha) Number of trees in social position 3 (N/ha) Number of trees in social position 4 (N/ha) Number of trees in social position 5 (N/ha) Maximum DBH (cm) Clark and Evans Aggregation Index Gini coefficient Number of tree species Mean DBH of 5 largest trees (cm) Shannon Diversity Index of basal area heterogeneity for tree species Evenness Index Shannon Diversity Index of basal area heterogeneity for 10 cm DBH classes Shannon Diversity Index of basal area heterogeneity for 5 cm DBH classes Stand density index Volume of lying dead trees (m3/ha) Volume of standing dead trees (m3/ha) Volume of stumps (m3/ha) Volume of snags (m3/ha) Volume of CWD (m3/ha) Deadwood volume in decay class 1 (m3/ha) Deadwood volume in decay class 2 (m3/ha) Deadwood volume in decay class 3 (m3/ha) Deadwood volume in decay class 4 (m3/ha) Deadwood biomass (m3/ha) Dead-to-living volume ratio Growing stock < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Acer pseudoplatanus < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock -Tilia spp. < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Fraxinus excelsior < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Ulmus glabra < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Fagus sylvatica < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Abies alba < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Picea abies < 10 cm (m3/ha) Growing stock - Quercus petraea < 10 cm (m3/ha)
